TopBet Review

TopBet resurfaced to the online gambling world in 2012 under new management. Originally, their operations started in 2001 but with various reports of rogue behavior, they were forced to step away from the business and make changes – at least on the surface, that is.

Shady Background

Actually, TopBet shouldn’t be directly blamed for the rogue behavior that was still rampant less than five years ago. It was FutureBet, a company that provided both software and payment-processing to various gambling sites – including TopBet – that ran away with their customers’ money. They seemed to be handing out software licenses, payment processing, customer support, e-mail marketing, etc. to any gambling site that wanted in on the business – and obviously the business model worked since never paying out winnings seemed to be a big part of it.

Incredibly, even though FutureBet is no longer in charge of payment-processing at TopBet, they still provide the software. Perhaps TopBet.eu is nowadays a safer option because of that? Perhaps they just really like the FutureBet software?

I dislike their decision to stick with FutureBet even if it’s a software-only type of a deal. If you were TopBet, would you stay in business with a company that has a long history of stealing money from your customers? It sounds weird, looks weird and is weird.

FutureBet has operated under numerous names throughout the years. They’ve had online sportsbooks, casinos and poker rooms. It’s impossible to know all the sites under their umbrella nowadays. (Unfortunately, it seems like you can obtain and keep a Curacao gaming license even if you have a long history of scamming your customers in various ways – we’ve seen that story most recently with LockPoker.eu.)

I recommend other US sports gambling sites. Even if TopBet is a completely legitimate operation nowadays, it would be impossible to determine that to be true. There are options with stronger track records, such as 5Dimes.eu and Bovada.lv.

I Wrote a Review Anyway

I wrote a TopBet review below not because I consider TopBet a legitimate gambling site but because it’s heavily advertised on certain informational gambling sites as the top-3 (or even the “#1”) choice. So do yourself a favor: stay away from TopBet, and stay even further away from the site that recommended it.

I want to make this crystal clear: all the features, odds, and such your bookmakers offer make no difference unless they pay out your winnings. Based on TopBet’s history, it’s difficult to place a lot of trust in their willingness to pay your winnings.

Banking Options

You can deposit to TopBet via Visa and Mastercard credit cards and Western Union (known as ”Quick Cash” on the website). Their website offers no information regarding fees and such involved in deposits and withdrawals (another good reason to avoid the site – you should know all about the ways you can send money to and from a gambling site, how long it’s going to take and how much they charge for it before doing so).

Actually, there is one detail about their check payouts: you get one check payout for free each month. (As mentioned earlier, though, you may get nothing from this site.)

Sportsbook

Betting Selection

TopBet’s betting selection is slim. For example, they offer odds on two upcoming MMA fights while two of the best US betting sites offer 31 (5Dimes.eu) and 15 (Bovada.lv). Bovada is notorious for posting lines late so their betting selection looks smaller than it will be a couple of days before MMA fights – in either case, the difference is significant. TopBet is a graveyard for MMA bettors.

They have a decent amount of betting options for other popular American sports such as football, basketball and baseball. In fact, the focus is heavily on American sports (they offer betting lines for only 11 sports overall) and anyone looking to bet on non-US sports should head elsewhere (again, for example, 5Dimes is a great option due to the quality of their betting lines and the variety of sports and games that they offer).

Betting Limits

TopBet’s wagering limits are some of the smallest in the U.S. betting industry. Weirdly, this was always the case even in the days when lots of their customers complained about rogue behavior (you’d think they can accept big wagers if they’re never going to pay the winners anyway).

Bonus

TopBet advertises a 50% up to $250 deposit bonus but nowhere on their site do they explain the terms of the bonus. The quality of a deposit bonus depends entirely on its terms and conditions – what the wagering requirements are, which kinds of bets qualify for the bonus and how long you have to clear the bonus. We’re given zero information regarding these terms and only given a vague ”x% up to y$” offer.

You can contact TopBet.eu via e-mail and phone (they claim to available 24/7).

Conclusion

Due to TopBet’s reputation (and more importantly their software provider’s reputation), I wrote a shorter review than what I’m used to. Frankly, explaining all the specifics felt both pointless (because you have better options and no reason to sign-up at a site like TopBet that has a rogue past) and difficult (they’ve made all the essential payment and bonus information hard to find).

If you value your hard-earned money, please consider signing-up at one of the top-recommended USA sites.
